Introducing The Project D0VE Initiative.

The large growth of the Nigerian Auto-Industry and the advent of locally made vehicles mean that there would be an increasing need for trained engineers and technicians in the management of these industries. It is also common knowledge that the current crop of engineering graduates coming from our universities, are not practically exposed enough to manage these industries.

To this end, we created the Project D0VE Initiative. Project D0VE meaning Designed with 0 Vehicle Emissions is a project for the design and construction of a track-focused, four wheeled, electric, zero emissions vehicle using locally sourced materials and purely indigenous technology. It is our aim to give students an opportunity to harness their talents combined with the knowledge they have gained in class and put it to good use by engaging in a practical hands-on project, this project being the design and fabrication of an eco-friendly track oriented vehicle.

Project D0VE is also geared towards the need for cleaner vehicles. As is well known, the exhaust emissions of vehicles accounts for a high percentage of the green house gases polluting the environment, which is why D0VE is designed purely to be a zero emissions vehicle.

After the construction and exhibition of the D0VE vehicle, our next aim is to include as many engineering universities as are interested in an annual competition where students from each university can come together in groups to produce their own example of a D0VE. It is our belief that this would help motivate students to be more intuitive and also help team building.

The Project D0VE initiative is very unique because it gives students the opportunity to be more involved with a real life project whose results are beyond that of numbers and figures which is the norm in the classroom, and because it involves various departments of the field of engineering.

Currently we have completed the design and have begun the construction of the vehicle. The lack of technician and financial sponsors have made things a bit difficult but nevertheless, we have pushed on. We plan to exhibit the vehicle by the end of June and hope to secure enough sponsor to establish the D0VE program then.
