Yep, yep, We've exhibited our car oo!!!
Included below is the speech I gave during the exhibition. It's a good read. enjoy!!!!!!
The Project D0VE Crew is the best!!!!!!!
THANK YOU. BEFORE I BEGIN.
I WANT TO THANK THE VC, DEAN, AND ALL OTHER DIGNITARIES FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REPRESENT HERE. I ALSO WANT TO THANK DR D.K OLUKOYA OF THE MOUNTAIN OF FIRE AND MIRACLES MINISTRIES AND THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS LAGOS BRANCH FOR THEIR STRONG SUPPORT IN THE CREATION OF THIS PROGRAM.
Everyone would agree that when you're opportuned to discover your gift early, you make sure you go all out and use it; even if it means setting difficult and far-reaching goals.
Feb 9th 2014 was the day I received the inspiration to begin this project. I prayed to God asking what I was going to use my gift for and I heard a voice telling me to build a car. At this point, I was quite surprised because I had never taken on any project similar to this and I was relatively inexperienced. The only thing I had was the passion and as I have discovered, that's really all you need, because passion is the strongest thing that can make one to go and get the experience needed to complete a goal.
I threw my free time and basically my whole life into the development of the P1 but when it became obvious that this wasn't still enough, I looked for people who believed in my goals to join me. At the time, we didn't even have a name for what we were doing, we were just satisfied to be working on something practical.
It was during this period that I discovered that Universities are full of tons of geniuses just looking for a platform to showcase their gifts. A lot of us who were working on the car weren't doing so because we had experience on cars but because we saw an opportunity to showcasing our gifts and think differently in order to achieve the set aim. The opportunity to be doing something different was all the motivation we needed. It was then I realized, we couldn't just stop at one car. We had to establish a program set up specifically to encourage students to think differently and use their gifts to design and innovate vehicles for the future. Thus the Project D0VE Initiative was born. D0VE is an acronym meaning Designed for Zero Vehicle Emissions. A Dove is often used to symbolize cleanliness and purity and we used it here to define the kind of vehicles we want to create, pure, clean, eco-friendly and energy efficient vehicles.
We wanted to give ourselves and young engineers interested in design and innovation an opportunity to show what we are capable of, because it is this creative young generation that can take Nigeria from where she is now to the Industrial giant she is supposed to be.
The Project D0VE Initiative is a design and innovation group set up to spur youths to design and create vehicles for the future in Nigeria. The importance of design cannot be understated because she is the back-bone upon which all systems work. Without a good design, nothing can be created. Design and Innovation go hand in hand because before it can be said that you have created an innovation, you must have created an innovative design. Take for example the D0VE P1; we decided against all odds that she was going to be rear wheel driven. My Mechanical Engineering Pro's here would agree that a rear wheel driven car would need a propeller shaft and a rear differential to work; but I can tell that you that we were able to create a properly functioning rear transmission without a conventional differential or a propeller. How did we do it, quite simply we innovated. Innovation is the very word that defines what we stand for. If you look carefully at our logo, you would notice that on our logo, it is written THINKING DIFFERENTLY. Yes, because thinking differently is how man innovates.
Some of you may be wondering as to why we decided to pitch our tent with electric cars especially in Nigeria where power supply is unsteady. The truth is whether we like it or not, the world is running out of fossil fuels, and is already trending towards hybrids and electric cars. Analysts say that by 2030, more than 50% of all new cars sold would be electric....... This is because electric cars are better in every measurable way to their gasoline/diesel counterparts. They are way more efficient and eco-friendly and because they have fewer moving parts, they are less susceptible to damaging and repairs. They are also a lot less likely to catch fire than fuel powered cars which makes them safer, and they can be run from renewable sources of energy like the sun. I could go on. Trusting that Nigeria would also follow world trends, it means that very soon, we would also be importing as many electric cars as gasoline cars anyway, so the question is, shouldn't we already be developing our own?... And that is where the Project D0VE Initiative comes in. We want to contribute to the development of electric powered vehicles so as to ensure that Nigeria is self-sufficient when we finally run out of oil. Nigeria has the potential to be a force in the development of technology for electric vehicle propulsion, all she needs is to give her young engineers, the young people sitted at the back here, a chance to show what they’ve got.
I am glad to be here showcasing this vehicle to you all. Your presence is encouraging and evidence that we are doing something right. If there's anything I want you to take from this occasion, it's this. The Project D0VE Initiative is here to stay. We are devoted and determined to ensure the continuity of this program and we want you all to support us. The D0VE P1 is our 1st production but she is definitely not going to be our last. We would continue to work to enlist youths to research, design, innovate and create "with professional help" vehicles for the future in Nigeria. The P1 is our starting point , our learning phase and a step towards the actualization of the truth that we Nigerians and Nigerian Youths in particular can be a force to reckon around the world when it comes to innovative engineering; because we are all born geniuses.
I promise that in a short while, we would be inviting you all to Sheraton Hotel or Eko Hotel to unveil the P2; and the P3; and the P4, and I promise that each would far exceed its predecessor in terms of design, technology and sound engineering. We at Project D0VE want to create vehicles for the future in Nigeria that would amaze the world. We have just started, there's still a lot to come.
My name is Olukoya Olusanya and I'm the founder of the Project D0VE Initiative. Thank you for listening, God bless you!!!.
Brilliant.
